“Friends of a Feather” Monthly Family Bird Walk: Migration

  • Orient Beach State Park 40,000 Main Road Orient, NY 11957 USA (map)

“Friends of a Feather” is a monthly bird walk for families with Naturalist Jennifer Murray, providing an opportunity to learn about birds, “birding,” and community science projects. A meet up may also include a workshop or a craft. Families will experience a different topic each month.

This October, Celebrate World Migratory Bird Day by observing raptors and other migrating birds at Orient Beach State Park. We will learn how to use binoculars and guidebooks (provided), identify birds, learn how to protect birds during migration, and make a simple bird craft. Participants will receive a bird decal to help prevent window collisions at home, a raptor identification guide (bird of prey silhouettes), stickers and more. Please email State Park Naturalist Jennifer Murray to register. This event is free but you are welcome to make a donation to Orient Beach SP to support educational programs.
