“Los animales en el invierno”, un taller bilingüe de títeres. Los participantes irán en un breve caminata para explorar cómo sobreviven los animales durante los meses de invierno, luego irán al interior para hacer títeres trabajando con la profe Carmen. Join us to celebrate Dia de Los Muertos - a bilingual community event!
Orienteering in Orient!
Learn the basics of using a map and compass to complete a simple compass course around the bathing beach and playground. Meet at the concession stand area - look for the "Conservation Station." There is no parking fee at this time. Free family program. If you would like to contribute to Orient Beach State Park directly to support future educational programs, there will be an opportunity at the event to contribute via QR code, cash, or check. “OOO!” Outdoor October Outings (School Holiday Program)
Turtleback EEC is running outdoor education programs this October during school holidays for ages 5-12 (CIT’s welcome). We will also be offering three days in November - weather permitting. Stay tuned for locations. You may enroll your child for one day or all three. Themes, lessons, and topics will vary. Celebrate World Migratory Bird Day by observing raptors and other migrating birds at Orient Beach State Park.
Outdoor Youth Archery
East End Archery Club will meet up for six weeks at the Peconic Community School in Cutchogue before the days get too cold for an outdoor after school class. We then meet back up indoors in January at the Jamesport Community Center. This youth class is for students ages 8-14. We use recurve bows. Equipment is provided. Space is limited. Registration is through the Peconic Community School.
Solar Eclipse
The April 8th total solar eclipse will cross North America, passing over Mexico, the United States, and Canada. A total solar eclipse happens when the Moon passes between the Sun and Earth, completely blocking the face of the Sun. Long Island will experience a partial eclipse at 3:30 PM. Only a part of the Sun will appear to be covered, giving it a crescent shape.
