Get to know us!

Turtleback Conservation Center is a nonprofit organization dedicated to protecting, restoring, and researching the natural environments of the North Fork. We engage the community and foster stewardship through education, hands-on conservation projects, and wildlife research.

Community Engagement
Turtleback connects people of all ages to the natural environment through education, outreach, stewardship, and hands-on conservation projects.

Research
In partnership with scientists and community members, Turtleback contributes to key research initiatives, including the Long Island Coyote Study Group, Long Island Mammal Study, American Oystercatcher Work Group, Horseshoe Crab Work Group, and the North Fork Bald Eagle Study.

Protection & Restoration
Turtleback leads public habitat restoration projects and works to protect the North Fork’s wildlife, including Diamondback Terrapins and Piping Plovers.

Endangered Shorebird Management
On behalf of the Town of Southold’s Beach Dependent Species Program, Turtleback manages the research, protection, and monitoring of the state-endangered Piping Plover and state-threatened Least Tern.

Collaboration
Turtleback actively partners with organizations, agencies, and community groups to pursue shared conservation goals. We believe collaboration strengthens our ability to protect and restore the natural environment.
